Book Review – Grey: The Covenant of Shadows (Volume 1) by Kade Cook

I just finished reading this book and I loved it. At times the author does a very good job of sucking me in. I really enjoyed those parts. I don’t want to give away too many spoilers, but its fun to follow Gabrian on her journey of discovery. I love the idea of there being a hidden world that is more colorful than ours.

Like I said there are times in the story that I find myself pulled into that world and I don’t want to come out of the story. Unfortunately, there are still plenty of times where it gets hard to read because the language is telling us what is happening instead of showing us. As someone who has a mental illness I frown upon the idea that psychology is a logical problem. Its not. Its a physical illness that involves the head. It is similar to the debate of whether love is logical, physical, etc. While I disagree with this world view of the author, I try not to dock her story too much for it. It is interesting to see into someone else’s mind by reading what they write. Sadly, those two things bump me out of the story, so I dock a star for these two things. However, the premise itself is very exciting. I give it a 4 out of 5 stars. This score means that I still consider it better than average. I have yet to give 5 stars to any book I have mentioned on my blog. I guess I better think of one of my favorite books and write a review for that. One of the bad things about becoming an author is that it becomes easier to criticize. Anyway, thanks for stopping by. Have a good rest of your day.
