Book Review – Age of Myth (Book One of The Legends of the First Empire) by Michael J. Sullivan

I loved the amount of culture and history in this novel. Michael J. Sullivan does a great job with purveying racism and elitist attitudes on several levels. In our world, weaponry could be thought of as the strength used to enslave, but in Age of Myth it is magic. With magical ability it is even easier for the people wielding the magic to see themselves as gods; so superior in both longevity and capability that men can’t compare. I also enjoyed how it was the arrogance of these different races that caused the wars; not something reasonable. Since this is the first book, it takes time for things to get started. The few times magical battles took place, I was enthralled. I am very excited to read the next book in the series. I hope to see what happens next. Like a chess game, some pieces were added, some were removed, but its very hard to tell what is going to happen next.
I give this book a 5 out of 5 stars.
